Onda Verde / Green Wave
Green Wave is a project where the earth is the winner. People save money by reducing their energy consumption.
Less consumed fossil fuel means less emission of greenhouse gases that cause global warming. And in Galapagos
less consumed fossil fuel means less chance of another diesel fuel spill in the bay.
- This course is designed to teach efficient energy conservation at home.
- Students will participate in activities that provide exposure and knowledge of the situation of energy to the community.
The activity will include research on the situations to enable students to understand the consumer perspective and how to save energy.
- Students get involved in measurement activities with the rMeter Smart Meter in the community where they then provide energy information to householders.
Students will write papers on the results of their research activities for the community.
- Students will use advanced information technology in communications and electronic data collection that provide them the knowledge
and experience to collect and analyze research data and publish reports in various electronic formats using a variety of technology hardware and software.
ADVANTAGES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM
We are part of the Green Wave where our people learn to help with energy saving.
We teach our community to take care for our environment.
The program will provide two Netbook computers to the best two students.
rMeter Home Monitoring Kit
rMeter home Monitoring Kit is designed to measure the enegy consumption of the different appliances in the house,
and to show how much energy these devices are consuming .
The rMeter Home Monitoring Kit software shows in a real time graph how much energy a device is consuming as it is being consumed.
This knowledge gives the user an awareness of his or her appliances and how much they are using.
The kit accepts all the data sent by the Measuring Devices, processes it, and shows that information to the user. In addition to the real-time display,
you can view graphs showing for each appliance the total energy consumption, and the average energy consumed per day and by hour.
How it Works:
The Measuring Devices are plugged between the power socket and the Appliance to measure energy consumption.
These measurements are sent to a computer. The measurement devices send and receive data to the computer through the power line,
thus no extra cables or network connections are required. On the computer side the measurements are readk by an Echelon Data Transmitter/Receiver.
A Echelon Data Transmitter/Receiver is an USB to Power Line Adapter which is plugged to both the power line and the computer.
The Echelon circuitry islolates the computer from the power line so the setup is safe for consumers.
Once the data gets to the computer it is recorded in a databse, processed, and then shown by the Home Monitoring Kit software.
Each appliance measuring module is assigned the name and type of the appliance being measured.
For example, when it is connected to a Refrigerator it will have a name, such as Kitchen Refrigerator, and the type,
Refrigerator. This classificaton system provides the capability to look at the appliances one at a time; Jones,
Kitchen Refrigerator. It also provides for the ability to look at all refrigerators that have been measured and to compare them.
